President Donald Trump’s freakish mouthpiece, Kellyanne Conway, is known as a master of political spin. You can’t trust a word that comes out of her mouth, and she constantly changes the direction interviews are going while avoiding the tough questions with fanciful rhetoric. But it also cannot be denied that she is good at her job…

That is, until today.

In the wake of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s resignation yesterday, Conway was busy trying to defuse the situation via her preferred medium of television interviews. However, even Trump’s favorite deceptive spinster couldn’t argue her way out of the hole that Flynn has dug for himself and Trump administration.

NBC’s Matt Lauer was pulling no punches with Conway today, who looked tired and ragged as if she’d been up all night trying to figure out how to persuade the world that Michael Flynn isn’t a traitor.

Lauer made the point that yesterday afternoon Conway was telling the media that Flynn had Trump’s full support, which he clearly didn’t considering he resigned shortly thereafter. Lauer then asked:

So had he not resigned the president would have continued with him as National Security Advisor even though he misled the Vice President and the administration about the contents of that call?

Conway replied that “that fact is what became unsustainable…I think misleading the Vice President really was the key here.” This is when Lauer pounced, telling Conway bluntly:

So wait a minute – you’re saying that was the straw that broke the camel’s back but the White House knew about that last month when the Justice Department warned the White House that Mr. Flynn…had not been completely honest in characterizing that conversation with the Russian Ambassador. They even went further to say as a result of that dishonesty, he was at risk of blackmailing by the Russians.

Conway responded weakly, saying “that’s one characterization but the fact is that General Flynn continued in that position and was in the presidential daily briefings, was part of the leader calls, as recently as yesterday.” Conway was incredulous in her answers, not fully grasping that Flynn’s very presence in the White House is what was causing so much controversy. That’s when Lauer dropped the bombshell:

Kellyanne, that makes no sense!
